Sara Blackwood

Sara Blackwood, MA, PLPC, PCA, NCC is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) in Missouri and a Professional Counselor Associate (PCA) in Oregon. She earned her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in April 2024. During her studies, Sara interned at Centerpointe Hospital, where she worked with both adolescents and adults in acute mental health stabilization settings. She specializes in supporting individuals with Autism, ADHD, emotional disturbances, trauma, Dissociative Identity Disorder, anxiety, depression, and dual diagnoses.
Sara is trained in Cognitive Behavioral practices and expanded her expertise at Centerpointe Hospital, gaining experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness techniques. She is currently training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Sara utilizes a strengths-based approach, collaborating with clients to help them recognize and build upon their strengths while navigating emotional processing and developing coping strategies for times of overwhelm or sensory overload.
She works closely with clients to challenge life and relationship patterns that contribute to anxiety and depression. Sara’s professional interests include Autism, anxiety, depression, OCD, self-esteem, identity development (including LGBTQIA identities), PTSD, and trauma. She is particularly passionate about the impact of trauma on brain development and finding effective methods to heal from complex trauma.
As a queer therapist and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ and sex-positive communities, Sara is deeply committed to supporting others within these spaces.
Sara earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri in 2003. After working with young children with Autism, she pursued a Master’s degree in Special Education from Webster University in 2007. With over 15 years of experience in education, she discovered her passion for emotional regulation and helping students with traumatic experiences and complex diagnoses. This journey led her to pursue a career in mental health counseling. Sara is excited to continue her professional growth under the supervision of Stephanie Stockham-Ronollo.
